Recording Music With Your Computer 101 Part I

Using a computer in studio is a lot different then working on a term paper in Microsoft Word. Here are some tips to keep your daw running smooth.

Keep all the files for each session together. Programs such as Digidesign Protools will automatically create a new folder for you as you begin a new project. All files related to this song should be kept in this folder. This includes audio files, session files. midi files, mixes and ect.

If a file or project is important to you create a backup copy of it. If a f ile or project is really important to you make three back up copies. External hard drives are inexpensive. CDR’s and DVDR’s are even cheaper. Countless hours of work can be lost the second a hard drive fails. A hard drive like any other machine can break or burn out leaving your projects lost. CDR’s and DVDR’s are a cheap alternative but t hey scratch easily. Always make a safety and a master copy of your work.
